23 - The Band Stand

Looking up at the Band Stand, this was the location of the very first open-air concert by Tamworth bands. This was August 1978, regular brass band concerts were held in the Castle Grounds’ bandstand during the summer months but the then Manager of the Arts Centre, Dave Armour, wanted other bands to feature, hence, in August, Flash Harry – 06/08/78, Ice – 13/08/78 and Brewster – 20/08/78 all played in the Castle Grounds – the seed had been sown for the Tamworth Rock Festival.
